Franklin Templeton Launches Tokenized Money Market Fund in Hong Kong
Franklin Templeton has rolled out a tokenized U.S. dollar money market fund for professional investors in Hong Kong, signaling another stride in blockchain-based financial products within Asia's bustling financial hub. The Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund, domiciled in Luxembourg, is the first UCITS money market fund natively issued on blockchain for institutional and professional investors in the region. It focuses on short-term U.S. government securities to deliver income while safeguarding capital and ensuring liquidity.
"We plan to introduce a retail-approved tokenized fund pending SFC approval, aligning with our mission to broaden investment access and cultivate a dynamic digital assets ecosystem," said Tariq Ahmad, Franklin Templeton's Asia-Pacific head. The fund leverages the firm's Benji Technology Platform for blockchain-integrated recordkeeping, enhancing transparency, security, and cost efficiency. This end-to-end tokenized solution marks a first for an asset manager in Hong Kong.
OSL Wealth Management is the regulated distribution partner for the launch, underscoring Hong Kong's growing institutional embrace of digital asset innovation.
